NEW! Casper Secure™ 6.0
SMARTCLONE™ TECHNOLOGY BRIEF
SmartClone is revolutionary technology built in to Casper Secure Drive Backup, which enables the
rapid updating of a backup hard disk.
How does SmartClone work?
Because there is no need to re-clone data that remains unchanged, SmartClone
rapidly determines which differential updates need to be made to the destination hard disk, and
then uses this information to safely eliminate the redundant transfer of data during the cloning
process. The result is a dramatic reduction in the time required to re-clone an entire disk.
Understanding the SmartClone Process
The following figure shows the result of a normal clone. For example, when a disk is cloned for the
first time, all data is transferred from the source hard disk to the destination hard disk.
Source Hard Disk - Before Initial Clone
Destination Hard Disk - Results of Initial Clone
After a disk has been cloned for the first time, the SmartClone technology identifies and
maps out all of the changed areas on both the source and destination hard disks. Using this map, SmartClone then updates
only those areas of the destination hard disk necessary to reflect the current state of the source hard disk.

As shown in the figure above, new data that has been added to the source hard disk during normal use has been cloned to
the destination hard disk. Data removed from the source hard disk during normal use has been removed from the destination
hard disk. No other data has been touched, dramatically reducing cloning time.
How does SmartClone benefit you?
By eliminating the redundant transfer of data during the cloning process, SmartClone technology enables
you to update and maintain a complete, fully bootable replacement for your Windows whole disk encrypted
system hard disk in less time than ever before.
